My friends brought me here to try some authentic German food. Place is pretty big. You can't tell from the outside but it goes back deep. Place was packed. Food was good and decent priced. I got to try something my friends who are local enjoy. I guess the locals love it there by the looks of it being super packed. Must try if you're looking for authentic German food.
I had a platter of sausages. I went to this shop recommended by a German who lives in Japan. The staff and customers of the shop were kind and I drank apple wine for the first time at home. It was a heartwarming shop. I think the taste and the amount of food are very good.
Very delicious food, friendly service who is ready for fun, nice atmosphere and good prices. Always my pleasure
Classic Frankfurt beers with local flavors and local apple wine. The Germans love these flavors, for the Greek tastes it is a bit special; but it is worth a visit there
One of the best restaurant experience in a long time! With traditional interiors, amaaaazing apfelwein and great service, this is the place to be if you're looking for some authentic German food experience in Frankfurt!
Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, people of all ages come, German cuisine, local apple wine, the first half of the restaurant reserved for smokers.
Very nice atmosphere and good home-style, Hessian cuisine. This is our 3rd or 4th time here and we've never been disappointed. Service very attentive and courteous. Clientele of all ages. Everything perfect all round. Corona hygiene measures are observed.
We liked it very much. The atmosphere was very good and typically Franconian and the eater also found all dishes really good. There were guests of different ages present, really nice here!
Nice place. The food is good (I got the Viennese cutlet with baked potatoes).
Nice....
Decent traditional German restaurant in Frankfurt. Staff were slow to acknowledge us when we came in and we had to approach them. Also the time for a waiter to take our order was slow. We went for the mixed platter of Frankfurt specialties for 2. It was ok, just didn’t have any real character. Also I felt that the food wasn’t hot enough. However the amount of food was good value for money.
A very traditional restaurant, typically German for equally traditional cuisine. Frankfurt offers a huge variety of restaurants with typical cuisines from all over the world, from Greek to Iranian, from Afghani to Mexican, up to a great variety of pizzerias and restaurants referring more or less to the Italian regional culture. But being in Germany you cannot fail to taste something typical German. And we came across the Gemalten Haus, a very traditional restaurant in the Sachsenhausen district, south of the River Main. The appearance of the restaurant is that of the old German brewery, with wooden furniture and benches on the walls. But there are also pleasant open spaces decorated with interesting typical motifs. The friendly and attentive waiter speaks several languages including Italian. We tasted a Grünkerlnburger mit Krautsalat and a Franhfurterschnitzel with potatoes and green sauce. All good and well cooked, for a very reasonable price. You can go back.
Great inn! Very original! Delicious typical dishes from the region! An experience and very recommendable!
So many other places in Frankfurt where the Schnitzel will be less greasy and the waiter more polite.
Good food, very fast service and a nice atmosphere: the house and the walls are lovingly painted in both the courtyard and the taproom. We recommend
Cute place to have sausages and local cider.
This restaurant rests on its name. Green sauce and Ebbelwoi are mediocre, if anything. (Actually, not even that ...) In the 70s maybe cult, today it is more of a tourist restaurant. If you are not looking for a restaurant because of the name, you should just look a few doors away.
Genuine Apfelwein-Stube in Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt. Their schnitzel with green sauce (cold tasty sauce with herbs) is a bestselling act and I can understand why. Yum! Unfortunately service can take quite a while both to order, to get food and to pay. The food can also appear quite randomly so don't be surprised if person A is able to finish his/her meal before person B's food has arrived. Would I go there again? Yes, most likely. I like the vibe and the schnitzel.
It was a nice evening. You can sit outside nicely, even if it rains a little. The ? salad was delicious. The service is quick

The food used to be very good, yes, now even the green sauce tastes like grass soup. The ox breast tastes cooked, drained, why? Landlady u. Chefs tastes good and cooks and fries delicious. Otherwise the day will come when there is a lot of space in the painted house.
Good home cooking in a pleasant atmosphere The food is very good and it goes incredibly quickly from ordering to eating ..... Unfortunately I couldn't take any pictures here ...... Just too many guests ? Nowadays you have to be careful because of personal rights to your own picture ?
Traditional, Hessian restaurant with great inner courtyards and great Äppelwoi! However, if you don't like Hessian, you will find it a little difficult with the menu.
very delicious and healthy food
Nice very authentic apple wine restaurant. Good food in a nice atmosphere. Smoking in the separate area possible. Typical Frankfurt waiters with a special sense of humor. Would love to come back.
The food was really good, the place is beautiful. You have have access to some kind of private garden between buildings. The bad point is the waiting time that was really long, specially waiting at least 20 minutes for some bread. Also, a misunderstanding in our command make the experience less satisfactory.
Overall score is perfect. Perfect ambient
Very friendly place and food and drinks are just on point
Good food, good drink and old style atmosphere
Rustic pub that tourists and mostly locals like to visit. Food is super good, regional dishes with reasonable prices. Nice staff. It is best to come early enough to get a seat. You usually stay there not sitting alone. We felt very comfortable here.
Great place to have dinner and to socialize. I would give it 6 stars if i could
Friendly waiters and filling German tavern food
Nice big local pub/restraunt
Loud and very german
Nice traditional German restaurant but extremely crowded
Hearty food, selected beverages and personell with a sense of wit and humor.
Simply the best
This pace is quirky, packed which is a good sign, the food is amazing and quality is good. If you’re not sure about your meat, check out on the website before you come. Some interesting choices to be had. Well worth a visit.
Food are delicious. There have English menu upon request. So no worry about ordering food.
Amazing and authentic German place
That place represents the most traditional food in the Frankfurt region. Whatever food you get, order the green sauce, because thise is what Frankfurt is about. The Bembel of Applewine is a must if you are with a party of people of at least four. So much photo opportunities in the rural german pub, use it. You better be sure to post it and ensure you enjoy the experience!
Great home cooked food, the green sauce is very refreshing and best of all prices are very reasonable. Service is brisk but efficient. Thoroughly recommend the beef brisket.
We were from ireland, and the staff knew we couldn't speak german. They were extremely helpful and even taught us the correct way to enjoy the food. The atmosphere was really warm, and all the people there were friendly. Would definitely come back for a visit!
I absolutely loved the ox tongue and they had a really well seasoned mash potato that was cooked to my liking. Moreover, of course, the main attraction was for the Grüne Soße, which was refreshing due to the freshness of the ingredients of this cold dish. The staff were very friendly to me and we spoke of Frankfurt’s culture and the many bits and pieces you wouldn’t know as a foreigner. All in all, this place has a homey feel to it and is one of the places you can feel the traditions with the balance of locals and inevitably, some tourists. Making it unlike most stores in Frankfurt’s city centre, which are chain stores that do not reflect the reality of being in the true Germany. Thanks for the experience and may all be prosper!
Don't look elsewhere. "Zum Gemalten Haus" is the best Kneipe in the area. Authentic with its style. Service can be quick but it can get very crowded even though the place is huge. There is smoking area at the entrance which is covered and several big rooms inside. The food is good and I have never been disappointed since. Don't forget to finish with a "Mispelchen"!
Local food, pure German style, you have to visit and leave the sausages of the Christmas market aside for a bit. Difficult to find a table, crowded but good service. Recommend to visit
Good food. Authentic old tavern.good ambience
'Ebelwoi and grunes sauce mit eier'. This place is historic (quite literally I don't think it's changed in 80 years). A Frankfurt tradition not to be missed
Great experience! Good food and a great way to try some german classics.
Waited 20 minutes and even sat down barely. When you wait, you can wait while drinking apple wine in advance. The food and service were so good and the nights I had a great time talking with the locals. The food is called Grünesoße, a mixture of seven herbs, accompanied by schnitzel or boiled eggs. Schnitzel recommended!
